TikTok and AI

For years I’ve heard about TikTok, but to be honest I thought it was young girls prancing about, putting makeup on, or sharing photos of Dua Lipa, Raye and Harry Styles. Having no interest in any of the above I’ve always dismissed it.

A friend informed me recently this isn’t the only option, and it’s great for publicising your book. This led me to the next quandary, what do you post? The same friend recommended ChatGPT. I do not like AI, and I’ve tried to steer clear of it. Some people use it to create a book and then say.

“Look at me, I’ve written a book.”

No you bloody well haven’t! You’ve got a robot to write it for you.

But… I wasn’t writing a book, just looking for advice on marketing. So I tentatively asked the question. “How do I market my book on TikTok?”

I was surprised at the outcome, it sounded like it knew what I needed, and I now have twenty pages of ideas. None of them involve makeup, dancing or mooning over young Mr Styles, so far so good. The only downfall was when I asked it to recommend a look. Probably need to tweak that a bit.

All I have to do now is create some twenty second videos, we’ll see how it goes. Has anyone else used ChatGPT or TikTok I wonder? Personally AI scares me a little, there are already 85 million books on Amazon, and I do wonder how many are written by robots. Although you can usually tell… They lack humanity and passion, but I could be wrong they may have been written by someone who has no humanity or passion, I’ve never read Mein Kampf, so I’m no expert.

On a different matter, as the broken rib is healing I’ve managed to get up to a 24k training run, next week I need 30k and I’ll feel more confident, as I have the Boston UK Marathon in 4 weeks and was hoping for 03:40:00 time which should give me 1st in my age group 🤞

Happy Trails Folks x

They say I’m retired. Huh. I prefer to say I now work for myself. I published a debut novel a couple of years ago and have now published the sequel. For my sins I am a Yorkshireman, albeit well travelled, but back home in God’s own country now. I run, cycle, swim and drink Red Wine. If you want to know anything else just ask.

  1. I’m glad you are healing and feeling stronger. I’m excited about your upcoming marathon! Yay you!

Tik Tok remains a mystery to me. I glance at it and I did buy a a pair of sunglasses and body oil from the Tik Tok shop based on my coworkers suggestions. One of my bosses encourages us to use CoPilot for work projects and I do but I’m old school and prefer to create things the old fashioned way. Chat GPT though – no and no. I will tell you why. My sister just finished writing a book. I came to find out through her book promotions that a friend of ours (and a former boyfriend of mine) also wrote a book and is now sweeping through a book tour and television promotion. I said to my sister – wow! I was impressed. She looked at me and said he told me he did the whole thing with Chat GPT. I must say I instantly lost all respect. I’m impressed with his business chops and think he’s always been brilliant in his field but now…I think differently. Then I think – maybe I’m too old fashioned. Maybe everyone is going this and aim the schmuck taking the time to do things right.

    Just my two cents!

    1. Oh! I quite agree. I saw an interesting reel the other day where a girl was saying. Noooo! to people who use AI to write a book and justify it by then editing it into their own words. She said if you don’t have the imagination/skills to create in the first place you certainly don’t have them to edit a book 😂 AI doesn’t know my characters, it doesn’t know their quirks/failings/anxieties/dreams, or aspirations. I spent 5 years developing them. There is no way I would allow a robot to become involved, or actually another human. Apart from that I love the writing process, and when a book is finished it’s all me. Fail or succeed at least I tried. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, Karen, it’s appreciated.
